Backstein II
The transformation of the former KrauseCo engineering works in Vienna into a loft complex is a textbook example of successful revitalisation and reinterpretation of historic building stock.
“Spacious, light and airy” are the watchwords here, with extensive new open-plan loft units combining living and workspace. The original industrial character is accentuated by the exposed steel girders, impressively high ceilings and large windows, combined with modern fixtures and fittings for a contrasting touch.
These design elements underline the building’s industrial heritage while simultaneously creating a living space with a contemporary feel.
