Loft Piaristengasse
From the late 19th century onwards, these premises were home to the Herold printing house and boasted Vienna’s first rotary printing press. Telephone directories and daily newspapers were printed here until 1992. The production facility was subsequently converted into a loft apartment, the centrepiece being a pillarless space built from reinforced concrete that is 32 metres long with an impressive nine-metre ceiling. The space has a floor area of 288 square metres and receives natural daylight through windows along one side, giving it a special vibe.
The functional niche-like areas on the darker side balance the proportions of the space. The main living area has a flexible spatial layout, with textile partitions that allow the space to be made smaller or larger depending on individual needs. Side rooms can thus be created or removed at will as required by the users.
